Happy New Year for 2018 from the 2slowspeeds.
Another year has passed into history and we are on the cusp of 2018. What will it hold for all of us. I hope more peace, health, prosperity and most of all tolerance and understanding as we all navigate the future. Our 1st January 2017 blog entry had our idea for a second RTW all laid out, even though we ended up going in the opposite direction! No such plans this time round. A trip to the USA and Europe in February skiing and visiting family will be followed up by cataract surgery for me in April, seems to be my April prize in even years after ankle surgery in April 2016. What will the rest of the year hold, who knows but we will keep you updated.

I hope the cataract surgery is the worst you have to endure in 2018, but at least it will give you a chance to rethink the ‘escalator’ idea. I hope the thought that a block and tackle would suffice has been vetoed.
Anyway, we both wish the two of you (yes that means Anne too !) a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous 2018.

A very Happy New Year to your both. May be you continue to enjoy good health, wealth and prosperity. And may 2018 be another adventurous year for the 2slowspeeds.
Sorry I havenât been in touch. We went to Burma early December with my bridge partner and her husband. We also did a river cruise up the Irrawady River and ended up in Mandalay.
It was a new experience and enjoyed the trip very much. There were only 34 passengers on the boat and 23 crew. Lucky we managed to play bridge each day when there were no tours to go to.
Mysterious country, thousands of stupas/temples plastered in solid gold but the country is very poor. We stopped off on most villages along the river to see their cottage industry, such as pottery, weaving and silver making. Some of the villages have no running water or electricity. While the boat was moored at the sandbank, the women (and men ) would come to the river and wash their clothes, pots and pans, and then go into the river for a soap up and brush their teeth. Quite a sight to see especially when the water is murky and muddy.
Food on the boat was very good and the service was impeccable. However, my girlfriend got food poisoning and by the end of the 10th day, both Kim and I had sore throats. By the time we got home, he had a throat infection and I had a chest infection. We have been sick for 2 weeks so have not been back to the old routine much.
We must get together. I see you are travelling again in February. When you come back we must catch up. Hope that is fine with you.
